Dr. Justin Bailey, MD, FAAFP

Associate Professor of Family Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine. Director, Procedures Institute, Family Medicine Residency of Idaho, Boise, Idaho, US

Dr. Bailey loves any and all procedures. In his current position, his focus is teaching full-spectrum medicine and helping family physicians gain all the tools they need to provide exceptional care for their patients. He loves exploring and understanding evidence-based mainstream and alternative treatments that benefit patients, and he has refined a hands-on system for treating musculoskeletal disorders to dramatically diminish opioid dependence in his practice. In addition, he trains family physicians in endoscopy, skin surgeries, hospitalist procedures, and point-of-care ultrasound. In national and local settings, he lectures on primary care endoscopy, musculoskeletal medicine, procedural medicine, and the health benefits of relationships. The author of multiple textbook chapters, journal articles, and Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN) Clinical Inquiries, he currently acts as a local editor for FPIN. Dr. Bailey earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed residency at Eglin Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While active-duty Air Force, he taught full-spectrum family medicine and was deployed to Iraq during the Gulf War and to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber, MD, MAEd, FAAFP

Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber completed his undergraduate and medical training at University of Colorado. He completed residency in Family Medicine at R. L. Thompson Strategic Hospital, Carswell Air Force Base, Texas. After completing a four-year Air Force service commitment at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, Dr. Firnhaber spent nine years in private practice in Shelby and Chocowinity, North Carolina, with several years in solo practice. He joined the Department of Family Medicine at East Carolina University in 2006 as an Assistant Residency Director. Dr. Firnhaber assumed the role of Residency Program Director in 2011. He additionally serves as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Firnhaber was promoted to Associate Professor and granted permanent tenure at East Carolina University in 2015. Dr. Firnhaber’s clinical interests include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and migraine. He enthusiastically performs and teaches a wide variety of outpatient and inpatient procedures.

Dr. Eddie Needham, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Needham has been a program director for 15 years and an academic chairman. He received the Gold Level Program Director award from the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors for his years of leadership and experience. He has been a requested speaker at the American Academy of Family Physician’s annual Family Medicine Experience for almost ten years, as well as speaking for the Georgia and Florida Academy of Family Physicians for over 15 years.

Dr. Needham practices full-service family medicine, providing care from “conception to resurrection.” In 2013, he received the Full-Time Florida Family Physician Educator award, and he has previously received the 2007 Georgia Academy of Family Physicians Teacher of the Year and the 1997 Parke-Davis Teacher awards. It is his joy and passion to teach students of medicine the wonders of the human body and spirit.

David Glenn
Dr. David Glenn Weismiller, MD, ScM, FAAFP, Professor

David Glenn Weismiller, MD, ScM, FAAFP is Professor of Family Medicine at the new University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine. Dr. Weismiller is an active clinician providing full scope primary care including inpatient medical care and maternity care. He is a teacher with more than 20 years of experience in medical education. A proponent of reflection in practice and learner-centered instruction, Dr. Weismiller is recognized nationally for his work in continuing medical education and faculty development. He serves as Chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians Board Review Express® Course and the Annual Family Medicine Update Course. Dr. Weismiller is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park holding a BS in Microbiology. He holds a master's degree in epidemiology from Brown University, Providence, RI and an MD from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He completed his residency training at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Charlottesville and a fellowship in Maternal-Child Health at Brown University.

Dr. Julie Wood, MD, MPH, FAAFP

Julie K. Wood became the Senior Vice President for Health of the Public and Interprofessional Activities in 2013 after a lengthy period of member service with the AAFP, including serving on its Board of Directors. She has oversight responsibilities for the public health, scientific, and research activities of the AAFP, as well as the AAFP’s relationships with other medical organizations in the United States and abroad. Through these relationships, Wood facilitates the continued development of family medicine and coordinates the AAFP’s global activities. As Senior Vice President, Wood also helps direct organization-wide strategy and policy-development activities in addition to participating actively in the work of the AAFP Board of Directors. She is based at the AAFP's headquarters office in Leawood, Kansas. Wood practiced family medicine for several years, including solo rural practice as well as in the academic setting of a residency program faculty. She has a breadth of experience in family medicine, serving a diverse range of patient populations Wood earned her undergraduate degree and her medical degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City. She then completed her residency at Via Christi-St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program in Wichita, Kansas and her MPH at the University of West Florida. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
